As part of a national program, Wilkinsburg Mayor John Thompson, above, delivered a meal on Wednesday to James Pickens, 71, of Wood Street Towers.
The mayor, accompanied by Jennifer Matich, a volunteer coordinator with Meals on Wheels, was participating in the Mayors for Meals Day. It is part of the national March for Meals campaign, which was initiated by the Meals on Wheels Association of America. The program strives to raise awareness of hunger among senior citizens and to encourage communities to take action against it.
If you would like to become an engaged member of Wilkinsburg by spending an hour or two during your weekday delivering meals to seniors, please contact Jennifer Matich, the WCM volunteer coordinator, at 412-241-8072 email jenmatich@gmail.comjenmatic
